The Warmer Homes Scheme provides 100% funded energy upgrades to homeowners who receive certain Department of Social Protection payments and live in a poorly insulated home. SEAI appoints and manages the contractor. Eligible works include attic and wall insulation, heat pump systems, ventilation improvements, draught-proofing and BER assessment.
NEW from 6 October 2026: solar PV (up to 4kWp) and a battery (5kWh) are now offered as standard under the fully funded Warmer Homes Scheme. SEAI estimates this can save a household up to €878 a year.
The scheme does not install new fossil fuel boilers — if a heating upgrade is recommended it will be a heat pump or renewable option. Demand is high and waiting times from application to completion are long; check SEAI for the current estimate. Homeowners on the Warmer Homes waiting list can also access enhanced individual grants without losing their place on the list.
Must own the home and receive a qualifying DSP payment such as Fuel Allowance, Working Family Payment, One-Parent Family Payment, Domiciliary Care Allowance, Carer's Allowance (living with the person cared for), or Jobseeker's/Disability Allowance for over six months with a child under seven. The home must meet SEAI's property criteria.
