The Housing Aid for Older People Grant helps older people living in poor conditions to have essential repairs carried out to their homes. Works covered include structural repairs, re-roofing, repair/replacement of windows and doors, rewiring, central heating installation/repair, water supply and sanitary facilities.
The maximum grant is €10,700 or 100% of the approved cost of the works, whichever is less. The full grant is available to households with gross income up to €37,500, tapering down as income rises; no grant is payable above a household income of €75,000. Grants are subject to local authority funding, and some councils have paused or limited new applications — check your county.
Since 1 Jan 2025 the grant no longer covers NEW fossil fuel boilers, but can still cover repairing an existing boiler or installing electric or biomass heating. Applications are made through your local authority. Do not start works before approval.
Aged 66 or over. Must own or be responsible for repairs to the property. Means-tested — household income limits apply. Apply through your local authority.
